Harlem Furniture Commercials
Harlem Furniture has been around for a long time and in their long career, they have produced a wide variety of commercials. Overall, Harlem’s commercials tend to be exactly what you’d expect from companies in the discount furniture business. Lots of “unbelievably low prices!” and flashing furniture across the screen. Still, we thought it would be fun to chronicle some of their commercials to make it easy to track the company’s history.
1985 Commercial
This commercial is a typical example of furniture commercials styles. The company shows pieces of furniture, and then shouts about how low the prices are. Still, what I love best is the fun little jingle at the end. Nothing can beat an old commercial’s classic jingle.
1988 Commercials
This commercial is very similar to the one from 1985. Lots of repetition on low prices, and the main focus is announcing the opening of a new store. Overall, the commercial keeps up some of the catchy jingle and the low low prices offered.
1992 Commercial
Entering into the 1990s, the Harlem set changes to the tag line “It could only be Harlem.” Once again, they emphasize the low prices found in store. What I love about this commercial is the background music that sounds like it’s out of a classic Nick at Nite show.
1993 Commercial
I’m not sure why this commercial is shown with a beach backdrop but that is what they went for. There are a few brief shots of the showroom, but by and large, this commercial is just about low prices and sunsets.
1995 Commercial
With this 1995 commercial, the background music seems to have shifted towards a more combatitive sound. I feel like I’m watching a Steven Seagal movie with the pounding sounds. It makes it sound like you better like their styles, OR ELSE.
Modern Commercial
The background music has modernized as Harlem Furniture seems to be pushing a more hip style and sound. They keep emphasizing low prices but with a funner delivery. The only thing strange about this commercial is that people randomly dance across the screen.
Overall, Harlem Furniture has a rich history of ridiculous commercials. Watching them is an interesting look back through time as you can hear the changing music and presentation of the commercials. The company has been around for so long they have watched as technology has changed and adapted accordingly.
