Mor Furniture
Mor Furniture’s full name is Mor Furniture for Less. The company is based out of San Diego, California but has grown over the years to have quite a presence along the west coast. Having been around since 1977, the company has a rich history in selling discount furniture and bedding.
Mor Furniture was founded in 1977 in San Diego, California by Richard Haux, Sr. The first location was a waterbed retailer and experienced strong growth as they became a leading dealer in the San Diego region. They started to expand rapidly in the 1980s, with new stores opening in Spokane, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.
During this time and the 1990s, the company went by the names Superstores of America and Bedroom Superstore. Finally in 2000, the company converted its model to what we now know today as Mor Furniture. They moved away from the specialty stores like Bedroom Superstore and America’s Sofa Super Store and made each furniture store cover the gamut of options.
Today, the company is still run by Richard Haux, Sr and has grown rapidly. To put their growth in context, the company was the 39th largest furniture retailer in 2008 and by 2010, they had climbed up to the 30th position. The company also opened up six new stores in 2010, and at least one more in 2011. According to their web site, Mor Furniture is now present in 7 states and 20 different cities. They have locations in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, and Washington.
If you have ever visited one of their locations, let us know as we’d love to hear about it. We’ve already read that the stores have free popcorn and cookies so if you have one near you, stop by and check it out. If you send us a review, we’ll share it with all the other visitors.
