Popular Designs in 2012

As 2012 gets underway, it is fun to look at the different styles that are popular currently and what types of products different furniture stores are starting to push. These styles often come after evaluating the trends in culture and gauging what things people might be interested in. This sampling is based upon a release of information by Ashley Furniture that tries to predict where 2012 will take us.

Sectional Couches
Likely a product of the recession, Sectional sofas are seen as a big mover in 2012. As people start to move their entertainment back home, they’ll look for ways to host parties at home. A sectional does just that as it provides plenty of room to let a number of guests sit around and enjoy conversation. These couches tend to be fairly large and fairly low-cost so they expect to see a lot of them go.

We'll see if the world ends in 2012, but that doesn't mean your home should stop looking good.

Servers and TV Consoles
Partnering with that idea of moving entertainment to the home, TV consoles and servers are big targets for 2012. As people have more gatherings at home, they’ll be hosting buffets and so servers and sideboards with warming tray space are going to be a hot priority. Utilizing a good tv console for storage and to show the big game with friends will tie in here as well.

Better Mattresses and Storage Beds
Mattress technology is constantly improving and prices are getting better and better. When it comes to bang for the buck, these options at home are going to lure people into upgrading their sleep facilities. After all, you spend the most time in your bedroom, might as well make it somewhere nice. The storage bed ties into peoples efforts to cut down on clutter as they find new places to hide their stuff within the bed.

Accent Furniture
This is an area we’ve touched on a lot lately and it seems that others agree. People want furniture that jumps out at you and captures your eye, so expect to see accent pieces blow up in a big way in 2012. There are a lot of cool designs that combine utility with good looks, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a piece you really like.

Overall, these are just a few trends that are expected to blow up in 2012. As you evaluate your own needs for the coming year, what jumps out at you as something you’ll be looking to buy? Do you think these trends are real or just marketing nonsense?
